The “Heart of Georgia,” Macon is a city of 152,663 located roughly in the center of the state. Known for its antebellum historic sites, Macon is the hometown of many famous musicians, including the Allman Brothers, Little Richard, Otis Redding, and Bill Berry. Macon is served by two airports: Macon Downtown Airport and the Middle Georgia Regional Airport. Macon offers a mix of musical and historical attractions to residents and visitors alike. The city hosts several annual festivals, including the Georgia State Fair and the International Cherry Blossom Festival. During the summer, beat the heat at the Sandy Beach Water Park, or visit Cannonball House, a historic mansion named for the damage it took during the Civil War.
Fans of collegiate sports can cheer on the Mercer University Bears, who compete in football, baseball, basketball, soccer, and lacrosse in the NCAA Division I. Macon has its own hockey team, the Macon Mayhem, who compete in the SPHL, as well as the Georgia Doom arena football team and the Macon Bacon CPL baseball team.
Like most of Georgia, Macon has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are hot, with highs in July hovering around 92℉. Winters average an inch of snow a year, with January lows of 35℉. Macon sees an average of 219 sunny days annually, and a yearly precipitation rate of 46 inches.
